The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Indian Navy, and ATS Gujarat Police jointly carried out Operation “SAGAR-MANTHAN-4” and intercepted a vessel carrying approximately 700 kg of meth in India’s territorial waters. 08 foreign nationals found on the vessel without any identity documents have claimed to be Iranians.
The Indian Navy launched Operation
“Through continuous intelligence collection and analysis, authorities generated reliable input, indicating that an unregistered vessel, lacking an AIS installation, would enter Indian waters with narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances on board. Acting on this crucial intelligence, the Indian Navy swiftly launched Operation ‘SAGAR-MANTHAN-4.’ The Navy then identified the vessel and deployed its mission-ready maritime patrol assets to interdict it.” This decisive action culminated in the successful seizure and apprehension of the vessel on November 15, 2024.”
Authorities are actively investigating the backward and forward linkages of the drug syndicate with assistance from foreign DLEAs.This operation is also a great example of Inter-agency cooperation and coordination.
SAGAR-MANTHAN ; NCB initiated Operation
Earlier this year, NCB initiated Operation “SAGAR-MANTHAN” by forming a team comprising officers from the Operations Branch of NCB Headquarters, the Operations/Intelligence Wing of the Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard, and ATS Gujarat Police to tackle the national security threat posed by maritime drug trafficking. NCB, in coordination with the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard, has conducted a series of maritime operations, seizing approximately 3400 kilograms of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. These efforts have also led to the arrest of 11 Iranian nationals and 14 Pakistani nationals in three cases, all of whom are currently in jail awaiting trial.
These significant operational achievements in the Indian territorial water are a testament to our resolve to eradicate the scourge of drugs from India to realize our vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat by 2047. To further enhance the capacities of Law Enforcement Agencies to deal with the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse the Union Government has recently created 111 posts in NCB including 5 SP level posts in addition to the 425 posts created in last 2 years.
