Chandigarh’s District Crime Cell (DCC) is operating at full capacity. The Chandigarh DCC, after apprehending robbers, achieved another major success. They arrested a snatcher gang and a vehicle thief as part of a special operation. Inspector Jasminder Singh carried out this operation. SSP Kanwardeep Kaur guided the operation. DSP Sita Devi supervised it. The police have recovered 19 stolen mobile phones, cash, purses, documents, and vehicles from the accused.

In the first case, the DCC team apprehended a snatcher gang. The police arrested the gang in connection with a case registered at the Sector 11 police station. DCC apprehended four members of the auto snatching gang, including Sagar (24) from village Dhanas, Laxman Kumar, an auto driver and soup vendor, and Raja (23) and Gaurav (24), a barber.
The police recovered an auto from the accused. They also found 19 mobile phones and Rs 3000 in cash. Additionally, they recovered three spring knives. An Aadhaar card, a purse, and two passport-size photographs were also seized from them. On January 17, at 11:45 pm, the victim, Rakesh, sold soup and was going home. Near Sector 15, three individuals stopped him to ask for a cigarette. When he refused, they snatched his purse and fled. On January 19, the police arrested the suspects near Batra Cinema in Sector 37.
Chandigarh DCC recovered the stolen vehicle from the accused.
In the second case, the police arrested Jai Kumar (37). He is a taxi driver from village Khanpur Kalan, district Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. The arrest was on charges of vehicle theft. A case had been registered against him at Sector 17 police station. The police recovered the stolen vehicle from the accused. The victim, Siddharth Gautam, had reported the theft of his Activa on October 19, 2024, from outside his house. On January 18, the police arrested Jai Kumar near Government School Mor in Sector 24.
The police stated that the accused committed theft and robbery to fund their drug use and maintain a luxurious lifestyle.
