Chandigarh, 19 July 2026 – The Rajeev Vihar Army Welfare Housing Society, Sector 13,
Chandigarh today commemorated the Braveheart Day of 2/Lt Rajeev Sandhu, Mahavir
Chakra (Posthumous) who laid down his life while combating LTTE Militants in Srilanka,
paying heartfelt tributes to the gallant officer whose supreme sacrifice continues to inspire
generations. Born on 12 November 1966 in Chandigarh to Shri Devinder Singh Sandhu and
Smt Jaikanta, he was commissioned into 7th Battalion of the Assam Regiment, from Officers
Training Academy, Chennai,, on 5 March 1988 which was then deployed in Sri Lanka to
support the Sri Lankan Army in combating insurgency.
To mark his sacrifice and keep his legacy alive, the Rajeev Vihar Army Welfare Housing
Society held a special ceremony attended by serving & veteran Army officers & families of
ASSAM Regiment, Serving officers from Chandimandir Military Station and veterans &
families from tricity as well as large number of residents of the Society and other dignitaries,.
Wreaths were laid on behalf of Army Commander Western Command, Station Commander
Chandimandir, Colonel of the Assam Regiment, Col DS Sra , President Rajeev Vihar and
other veterans & families and Col PS Mankotia on behalf of his Course mates. Tributes were
paid to honour his memory and supreme sacrifice for the country.
“We are proud to preserve and promote the legacy of 2/Lt Rajeev Sandhu. His courage,
commitment, and devotion to duty remind us all of the true meaning of service to the nation.
On his martyrdom day, we salute his extraordinary heroism,” said the President of the Society.
