RAJEEV VIHAR CELEBRATES 80TH INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH PATRIOTIC FERVOUR
Chandigarh, 15 August 2026: Rajeev Vihar Army Welfare Housing Society, Sector 13,
Chandigarh, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great patriotic fervour, pride and
unity. Armed Forces veterans, their families and civilian residents participated enthusiastically
in the celebrations, coming together to honour India’s hard-earned freedom and reaffirm their
commitment to the nation’s democracy, development and progress.
80th Independence Day : Martyrs Honoured, Tricolour Hoisted with Pride
The programme commenced with the laying of wreaths at the statues of 2/Lt Rajeev Sandhu,
Mahavir Chakra (Posthumous), in whose honour the Society has been named, and Lt Col S
S Rana, Ashoka Chakra (Posthumous). The solemn ceremony paid tribute to the supreme
sacrifices and exemplary valour of the two decorated heroes
The celebrations were presided over by Smt Swaran Kaur Bhatia, an octogenarian resident,
who hoisted the National Flag along with Col K C Saklani, Vice-President of the Society. The
National Flag was accorded due respect as the Tricolour unfurled proudly against the
backdrop of patriotic sentiments and national pride.
Col K.C. Saklani Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighters
Addressing the gathering, Col K C Saklani paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters whose
sacrifices secured India’s Independence. He also highlighted the vital role played by the
Armed Forces and other security forces in safeguarding the sovereignty, integrity and safety
of the nation since Independence. Saklani exhorted residents to contribute, in whatever small
measure possible, towards fulfilling the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

A major highlight of the celebrations was a captivating cultural programme featuring a
selection of patriotic songs rendered by accomplished classical singers Shri Sant Ram and
Mrs Rekha Mishra. Their soulful and stirring performances filled the atmosphere with patriotic
fervour and emotion, with residents joining in enthusiastically and swaying to the inspiring
patriotic melodies.

The event was further distinguished by the impressive presence of Army veterans, many of
whom proudly wore their service medals. Their presence served as a poignant reminder of
their lifelong dedication, distinguished service and unwavering commitment to the nation.
The celebrations concluded on a note of camaraderie and togetherness with the singing of
‘Vande Mataram’, followed by the distribution of sweets, tea and refreshments among
residents, staff and participants. The programme reflected the enduring spirit of unity,
patriotism and pride that defines the Rajeev Vihar community
