The Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh, successfully organized a Leadership and Management Training Program. This event was for PGIMER faculty members and took place on 11th November. This pioneering initiative marked the first structured leadership training program for the faculty at PGIMER. It was initiated under the visionary guidance of Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER said Prof. Sonu Goel, Program Director.
Program Bridges Medical Education Gap with Leadership Skills
“This program fills a crucial gap in medical education. It equips experienced clinicians with the leadership skills needed. These skills enable them to transition into effective managers and healthcare leaders,” said Prof. Arun Kumar Aggarwal, Head of the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health. More importantly, the program has included interactive learning methodologies. These methodologies are engaging. They include case discussions, role play, group activities, and experiential learning exercises. These methods will be immensely useful for undertaking patient care, he said.
PGIMER : “Prof. Sonu Goel Highlights Leadership Program’s Impact for Doctors”
Prof. Sonu Goel, Program Director, emphasized the significance of such initiatives. He stated, “Leadership skills are indispensable for doctors. These skills allow them to effectively navigate the challenges of modern healthcare. Programs like these empower medical professionals to take on leadership roles with confidence and competence.”This is the second program in series for doctors of PGIMER. It will build skills in critical areas like motivation, change management, and communication.
This program has been available to international academicians and program managers for the last 8 years. It has trained 1400 participants from 95 countries, he said.

The second session of this unique training series featured distinguished experts, including Mr. VivekAtray, Former IAS and Motivational Speaker; Prof. Amarjeet Singh, Former Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER; andProf. Sonu Goel, Professor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER. The sessions was attended by senior professionals from Internal medicine, Nuclear medicine, Anaesthesia, Transfusion medicine, Psychiatry, Biochemistry, Community Medicine & School of Public Health and Neonatology
“PGIMER’s First Session: A Collaborative Step Toward Excellence”
The first session of the series was held on November 9th. It successfully brought together 20 faculty members from various PGIMER departments. The departments included Transfusion Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Other departments were Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Internal Medicine, Anaesthesia & Intensive Care, Ophthalmology, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiotherapy. This collaboration paved the way for an impactful learning experience.This initiative highlighted PGIMER’s commitment to continuous professional development and the pursuit of excellence in healthcare delivery.
