20 Nursing Students Felicitated for their Selfless Contribution to Project Sarathi in Managing Patient Influx at PGIMER
Transformative Nursing : “Engaging with patients on multiple levels enriches your clinical skills. It also deepens your empathy and compassion. You will carry this experience with you forever. The organizers held the event to honor 20 NSS volunteers from the National Institute of Nursing (NINE). They stepped up to give their selfless service under the project Sarathi here at PGIMER.

PGIMER Director Praises Students’ Service Inspired by Florence Nightingale
Director, PGIMER commended the students’ efforts. He noted the importance of giving back to society. He asserted, “All that is not given is lost. Whatever you have, if you don’t give it back to society, it is lost. This is your duty, and you are doing it through Sarathi. You are not just nursing patients; you are serving your nation with a larger vision.”
Highlighting the transformative impact of their service on enhancing patient care and drawing inspiration from Florence Nightingale, Prof. Vivek Lal remarked, “Florence Nightingale’s legacy lives on through your selfless work. Like her, you’re not just caring for the sick; you’re creating a legacy of holistic service. This is a major step in transforming the profession, and I am proud of what you all have accomplished.”
Transformative Nursing : Prof. Lal Inspires Volunteers Through Sarathi’s Impact
Reflecting on his own journey as a resident doctor, Prof. Lal encouraged the volunteers to embrace the lessons learnt through Sarathi experience, stating, “We are the government. If we give our best, the government will shine. If we give our best to society, we will never regret it.”
Launched on May 6, 2024, Project Sarathi is PGIMER’s transformative, volunteer-driven initiative aimed at managing patient influx. It has garnered the support of 390 NSS volunteers. These volunteers are from nine premier educational institutions across Chandigarh. They have been contributing till date here at PGIMER. The model is already being replicated in over 700 hospitals nationwide.
Heartfelt Testimonials Mark Ceremony’s End
The ceremony concluded with moving testimonials from the nursing volunteers. They shared their gratitude for the invaluable opportunity. Dipali, a B.Sc. Nursing student, expressed her joy. She said, “It is heartwarming when patients and their attendants appreciate and bless us for helping out.” Similarly, Aditi, another student, shared the same sentiment, reinforcing the profound impact of their efforts. She shared, “Even after spending a year, we did not know many things about our own system.” We are much better equipped now. We understand the difficulties patients face. This helps us interact with them more effectively.”
Dr. Sukhpal Kaur Praises PGIMER’s Role in Holistic Nursing Education
Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal NINE also expressed her appreciation for PGIMER’s role in offering students this unique opportunity. She emphasized the importance of holistic nursing education. This education helps in shaping compassionate healthcare providers.
