Government of India Implements Investment Schemes for North Eastern Region
Government of India has implemented various schemes to boost investments in the North Eastern Region. The NEIIPP, 2007 aimed to promote industrialization in the North East until 2017. In 2013, the FSS replaced the Transport Subsidy Scheme, supporting transportation for industries in challenging terrains.
Introduction of NEIDS and UNNATI for Economic Growth
The Government introduced the North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS) in 2017 to cover the manufacturing and service sectors. Following that, on 09.03.2024, the Government introduced a new Industrial Development Scheme named Uttar Poorva Trans formative Industrialisation Scheme (UNNATI) 2024 as a Central Sector Scheme to foster industrial growth and create job opportunities in the North Region.
Flagship Programmes for Development in North East Region
Government of India is implementing various flagship programmes and schemes for the development of the North Eastern Region. As per the existing policy of the Government of India, fifty-five non-exempted Central Ministries/Departments must allocate a minimum of 10% of their Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) for Central Sector and Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the North Eastern Region to enhance the overall development of the region.
Government Initiatives for Connectivity and Infrastructure
Further, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region is also implementing various schemes viz. The schemes like NESIDS, PM-DevINE, and those by the North Eastern Council aim to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in the North East. Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, the Union State Minister for Development of North Eastern, shared this update in Lok Sabha today.
