Rajeev Vihar Army Welfare Housing Society, Manimajra, Chandigarh paid a solemn and
heartfelt tribute to Martyr Lt Col Shanti Swaroop Rana, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous), by
unveiling his Statue installed in the Central Park of the Society, which had earlier been
dedicated to his memory.

Lt Col Rana made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. This occurred during a daring encounter with militants on 02 November 1996 in the Kashmir Valley. He demonstrated exceptional courage, leadership, and devotion to duty. The nation posthumously awarded him the highest peacetime gallantry honour – the Ashok Chakra – for these qualities.

The unveiling ceremony was presided over by Lt Gen K. S. Mann former Colonel of The Bihar
Regiment, to which Lt Col Rana belonged. Lt Col D. S. Sra, President, Rajeev Vihar Army
Welfare Housing Society, and Mrs Savita Rana, wife of the martyr, graced the occasion as
Guests of Honour. Wreaths were laid from BIHAR Regiment by Lt Gen KS Mann, Lt Gen
Amarjeet Singh, Major Gen MS Balhara, Maj Gen DP Singh, Brig DK Mohan and the officers
from 3 BIHAR and 13 RR, whereas from Rajeev Vihar Wreaths were laid by Col DS Sra
President and other former Presidents, Maj Gen RK Bawa, Brig Ajmer Singh and Brig BM
Bakshi.
The event witnessed an impressive turnout. Serving and retired Army personnel from Rajeev Vihar attended. Members of The Bihar Regiment from Danapur Cantt (BIHAR), Chandimandir Military Station, and the tri-city area also participated. They came along with their families. A contingent of The Bihar
Regiment, accompanied by a military band, presented an impressive Guard of Honour to the
martyr. A team from the 13 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion from the Kashmir valley attended the ceremony. They had been with Lt Col Rana when he attained martyrdom. They honoured Mrs Savita Rana and the family.
