CHANDIGARH/TARN TARAN, December 13: One month after the launch of the public outreach program ‘Operation Sampark . Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla took part in a district level public meeting. He participated on Friday. It was organized by the Tarn Taran district Police in Patti town. The meeting aimed to gather firsthand feedback on police performance and listen to grievances of the general public.
The Operation Sampark is a brainchild of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav. It was launched on November 14, 2024. The intent is to promote trust, cooperation, and collaboration between law enforcement and the public.
Special DGP is nodal officer for this program
Special DGP Arpit Shukla is also a nodal officer for this program. He stated that as part of OP Sampark, CPs/SSPs must hold at least two public meetings each week. These meetings should occur at a district level. These meetings should include educational, business, social, economic, and religious organisations. Similarly, Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) have been asked to hold meetings at sub-divisional level. Station House Officers (SHOs) will also conduct regular meetings. These meetings aim to strengthen community ties, he added.
He termed the initiative a huge success. Since its launch on November 14, 2024, Punjab Police’s community outreach program has achieved remarkable milestones. CPs/SSPs held 4153 meetings in their respective districts.
Operation Sampark : primary goal is to create a strong connection with the community
He said the program’s primary objective is to establish a strong connection with the community. It focuses on addressing concerns. The program also aims to provide updates on various initiatives. To achieve this, the police will engage in regular community meetings. They will promote police-citizen interactions and youth engagement. Social media engagement and neighborhood policing will also be included, he added.
The Special DGP, during an informal interaction with the people from different walks of life, engaged with them directly. and taken firsthand feedback on the city’s law and order situation. He assured the people to resolve majority of their issues. He was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran Abhimanyu Rana.
Operation Sampark : Punjab Police has also initiated a special campaign
He informed the public that the Punjab Police has also initiated a special campaign against petty crimes and drug smugglers. The Punjab Police has launched a Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline ‘9779100200’. This helpline allows citizens to report drug traffickers anonymously. He stated that all the police officers must act promptly on tips received via this Helpline. This directive ensures quick response and action, he added.
After this public meeting, the Special DGP Punjab held a meeting with Commandants of Border Security Force (BSF). They reviewed the security arrangements at the border. They also aimed to further strengthen the second line of defence.
SPL DGP ARPIT SHUKLA MAKES SURPRISE VISIT
Special DGP Arpit Shukla visited Tarn Taran district on a whirlwind tour. shukla made a surprise visit to three Police Stations—Sarhali, Patti, and Harike. Spl DGP inspected the facilities and interacted with police personnel.
Arpit shukla reviewed the security arrangements at the police stations. He issued directions to the SHOs regarding the deployment of personnel. He also gave instructions about station records and other crime-related issues.
Special DGP held a meeting with gazetted officers
Earlier, the Special DGP held a meeting with gazetted officers. He also met with station house officers (SHOs) to assess the law and order situation of the region. The police officers were directed to strengthen the security of the citizens of District Tarn Taran. Spl DGP held a special meeting with retired police officers from the Punjab Police. He listened to their problems. He instructed senior officers to address their issues on a priority basis.
