Punjab Police Disrupts Terror Network Linked to Pakistan

CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, December 13: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police has disrupted a Pakistan-ISI backed terror-Network. Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operatives Harvinder Rinda and Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, operated the module. The module was executed by foreign-based gangster Gurdev Singh, alias Pehalwan. This success came with the arrest of two members. The Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, shared that they confessed. They admitted to placing an improvised explosive device (IED) at Ajnala Police Station.

Arrests Made in Connection with Terrorist Activity in Amritsar

          Those arrested have been identified as Jashandeep Singh alias Danny. He is a resident of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar. Another person arrested is a 17-year-old juvenile. Police teams have recovered two Chinese made P86 Hand Grenades. They also recovered one sophisticated Turkey-made 9MM Zigana pistol along with ammunition from their possession. Additionally, they impounded their Black Splendor motorcycle, which they were riding.

         Authorities recovered the IED less than three weeks after it was planted near Ajnala Police Station on November 23, 2024. Pertinently, terrorist organization BKI had used social media platform to claim the responsibility for this act of terror.

Terror Network : Preliminary Investigations Uncover Crucial Findings: DGP

          DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed crucial findings. Accused Jashandeep Singh Danny and the other arrested person were in contact with Gurdev Jaisal. Jaisal lured them to work for him by offering money and drugs. Apart from planning terror activities, Jaisal also used them for drug peddling, he added.

          He said that both the arrested persons confessed to placing an IED at Ajnala Police Station. They did this after directions from their handlers. They also revealed that they had received various consignments of weapons and explosives.

Terror Network : Investigations Ongoing to Uncover Rinda, Passia, Jaisal Network : DGP

          The DGP said that further investigations are being conducted to unearth the entire network of Rinda, Happy Passia and Jaisal. Efforts focus on identifying other members of this group. They aim to apprehend them to bring the case to a logical end, he added.

          AIG State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann shared operation details. He said that they have received secret information. Harvinder Singh Rinda, Happy Passia, and Gurdev Jaisal have mobilised their associates. They plan to carry out anti-national activities in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Batala areas. They have also arranged a huge consignment of weapons and explosives. This enables them to execute the plans of targeting government establishments.

“SSOC Amritsar Teams Acted Swiftly on Intel-Based Operation”

          The teams of SSOC Amritsar acted swiftly on the information. They launched an intel-based operation. They arrested accused Jashandeep Danny and his juvenile accomplice in the area of Amritsar. He said that they recovered arms and explosives from their possession.

          AIG Sukhminder Mann said that in May , 2024 too, Batala Police arrested Jashandeep Danny for his involvement in extortion.After getting bail, Jashandeep resumed criminal activities. Similarly, the juvenile stole an Activa scooter in August 2024. Amritsar City police arrested him. A few days later, they released him.

Case FIR No. 69, 13.12.2024

         In this regard, police registered FIR No. 69 on 13.12.2024.The registration is under section 25 of the Arms Act. It is also under sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances (Amendment) Act. Additionally, sections 61 (2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) apply. This is at Police Station SSOC, Amritsar.
