Senior Congress MP Sukhjinder Randhawa Sends Legal Notice Navjot Kaur Sidhu Over Defamation Allegations
Batala/Amritsar, December 9, 2025 : A high-voltage political and legal confrontation has erupted in Punjab. Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has served a legal notice to former MLA and minister Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu. He accuses her of making “false, baseless, and defamatory” statements.
The notice, issued by Advocate Gurmukh Singh Randhawa from Batala, demands an unconditional public apology from Dr. Sidhu within seven days. Failure to comply will result in the initiation of criminal defamation proceedings.
Legal Notice : Allegations and Counterclaims
The legal notice concerns statements allegedly made by Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, the former MLA from Amritsar East, during media interactions on December 7 and 8, 2025. According to the notice, Dr. Sidhu accused Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa of engaging in “corruption” while serving as the In-Charge of Rajasthan for the Indian National Congress, specifically in the “distribution of party tickets in exchange for monetary gratification.”
Advocate Randhawa, representing the MP, has strongly refuted these allegations. The notice describes Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa as a former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. People recognize him as a leader with an “impeccable reputation.” He is widely respected for his integrity. It states that the accusations are “completely false, fabricated, and motivated by malice.” They stem from political rivalry or personal vendetta. These accusations were made without any supporting evidence.
Legal Grounds and Demands
The notice invokes the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS). It asserts that disseminating these statements through electronic, print, and social media has caused “severe damage” to the MP’s reputation. It has also caused mental distress and loss of public confidence. The notice cites Section 356 of the BNS, which defines these acts as defamation.
The notice sets a strict seven-day deadline for compliance from the date of its receipt. Failing to meet these demands means criminal defamation proceedings will start under the BNS. It will also occur under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) before the Court of Judicial Magistrate in Batala.
