Chandigarh, December 24 : Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government has witnessed a significant increase in admissions to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. This surge is due to the government’s dedicated efforts to offer vocational education to the state’s youth. The technical sector is making significant positive changes.
25% seats increased in Govt. ITIs
In view of the industrial demands, 25% seats has been increased in Govt. ITIs this year to bring the total number of additional seats to 52,000 by 2025. In the 2024-25 session, 93.04% of the seats in 137 Government ITIs have been filled.
To enhance the industry relevance of training, the Government Industrial Training Institutes introduced the Dual System of Training (DST). This was done in collaboration with the Industry.
technical sector : introduced 27 new Industry-Oriented courses
The Technical Education and Training department interacted with industry representatives. As a result, they introduced 27 new Industry-Oriented courses in the 2022-23 academic session.Additionally, we carefully designed these courses to align with the evolving needs of the industry. This ensures that students gain practical, hands-on experience. Furthermore, introducing these courses shows the department’s commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry. It prepares students for real-world challenges. These courses include Agro Processing, Baker and Confectioner, Electroplater, Solar Technician, Textile Wet Processing Technician, etc.
upgraded five Government ITIs
The department had upgraded five Government ITIs at Ludhiana, Patiala, Mohali, Sunam and Manakpur Sharif under MPLAD. Apart from this, the Department has signed an MOU for academic cooperation with Homi Bhaba Cancer Hospital & Research Centre. This alliance aims at running internships of Polytechnic & ITI students at HBCH&RC.
attract industry to invest to strengthen and upgrade ITIs
The Department successfully attracted industry investment to strengthen and upgrade ITIs in the state. The STRIVE project, assisted by the World Bank, acquired the latest machinery.We upgraded workshops at twenty-three Government Industrial Training Institutes, spending Rs. 12.72 crore on these upgrades.
15 crore has been provided by the Finance Department
The State has established 25 new Government Industrial Training Institutes, completed civil works worth Rs. 15 crore, and allocated Rs. 1 crore for machinery purchases in the financial year 2023-24. Additionally, the Finance Department has allocated a budget of Rs. 15 crore for the financial year 2024-25.
