Chandigarh, December 20: Drug Campaign: Haryana Police is setting new benchmarks. Its ongoing campaign is against drugs in the state. The Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau is working hard. The district police are also actively participating. Their aim is to break the nexus of drug peddlers in the state. They are making every possible effort. In this series, Haryana Police has registered 3051 cases against drug peddlers from January 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024.
They have sent 4652 accused behind bars. In addition, Haryana Police is taking strict action against habitual offenders. They have taken preventive detention action against 63 drug peddlers under the PIT NDPS Act in 2024. This is to ensure that these criminals do not get involved in drug trafficking again.
Director General, Police, Shatrujeet Kapur shared information in this regard. He said that Haryana Police has prepared an effective strategy to break the drug supply chain. In 2023, Haryana Police registered 326 commercial quantity cases. In 2024, they registered 411 cases. These efforts targeted 841 big drug peddlers. DGP explained the update on the time limit for receiving reports from the Forensic Science Lab (FSL). The new time limit is 15 days for major cases. This change ensures faster processing. This will speed up big cases related to drug smuggling. This change will hasten the trial and help increase the conviction rate.
Efforts to Make Villages Drug-Free Show Success
He stated that the authorities have appointed 5,150 Gram Praharis and Ward Praharis in villages to achieve a drug-free state.. Gram Praharis and Ward Praharis keep an eye on those who sell drugs in the villages. In addition, authorities help people addicted to drugs quit.Similarly, the Namak Lota campaign has been successful. As a result of these efforts, there has been a 15 percent decrease in small-quantity NDPS cases this year. This compares to the previous year. This campaign raised community awareness and encouraged small offenders to quit drugs.

Sh. Singh stated that Haryana Police focused on the rehabilitation of drug addicts. They considered drug addiction more of a health challenge than a crime. Surveys were conducted in the state. This helped identify people who had become addicted to drugs. These individuals were then sent to rehabilitation centers for treatment. During this time, the Health Department made a strategic plan to help people overcome drug addiction. Many individuals were supported and helped to escape its pit.
Haryana’s 2024 Drug Seizures and Case Statistics Revealed
He shared the data. He informed that the state registered 411 cases of drug smuggling in commercial quantities.Additionally, 1808 cases were in the intermediate quantity. Lastly, 832 cases were in the small quantity in the year 2024. He informed that this year, Haryana Police has registered various types of cases. They recovered 28 kg 148 grams of heroin. They also recovered 266 kg 083 grams of charas. The police seized 8552 kg 088 grams of ganja. Finally, they seized 400 kg 956 grams of opium. Additionally, they recovered 382 kg 277 grams of opium plants and 15441 kg 253 grams of bhukki. The police seized 48,436 bottles of narcotic drugs, 311,776 narcotic capsules, and 691,681 narcotic tablets. Additionally, 12,778 narcotic injections and other narcotic substances were recovered.
