Chandigarh, December 10: Reaffirming the state’s commitment to the well-being of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced a recruitment drive to fill 1754 backlog posts across various departments.

1754 Direct recruitment and 556 promotional posts identified

The CM revealed during a meeting at his official residence that the government has identified 1754 direct recruitment and 556 promotional posts. He directed officials to expedite the hiring process, ensuring PwDs receive their rightful opportunities.

In a significant move, the CM also approved amendments to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, aiming to safeguard the rights of PwDs. “These individuals are real heroes who excel despite challenges,” said Mann.

Backlog Posts : free bus travel for dependent of blind individuals

The state has introduced initiatives like free bus travel for dependent of blind individuals and a 50% fare concession for PwDs in public transport, benefiting 7.5 lakh commuters. Additionally, Punjab has allocated funds for scholarships, pensions, and infrastructure accessibility for PwDs.

Govt covered the 2.65 lakh disabled persons under State Pension Scheme

The Chief Minister further stated that the State Government provided state pensions to 2.65 lakh disabled individuals, distributing Rs. 278.17 crore to beneficiaries during 2024-25. He added that the government allocated Rs. 3.37 crore in scholarships to 12,607 disabled children to promote their education. Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that the state government has released Rs 23.16 Crore amount under SIPDA scheme to make 144 Govt buildings accessible for PwDs.

CM Supports PwDs with Rs 1.31 Crore in Loans and Booth Opportunities”

The Chief Minister said that in order to ensure that PwDs live life with dignity and pride, the state government has facilitated the 105 PwDs to get loans of Rs 1.31 crore at concessional interest rates during last two years. Similarly, the state government facilitated 21 PwDs in obtaining booths from organizations like Milkfed, Markfed, and others.Bhagwant Singh Mann further said that the state government will leave no stone unturned for the well being of this important strata of society.
