Punjab Police, in a major breakthrough, busts a trans-border narco smuggling and illegal arms cartel. Amritsar Police arrests two individuals with 8.2kg of heroin, four pistols
CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, November 15: Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced here Friday that Amritsar Police had made a significant breakthrough by busting a trans-border narco smuggling and arms cartel, arresting two individuals, and seizing 8.27 kg of heroin, 6 kg of opium, 13.1 kg of chemical, and four pistols, including a sophisticated 9MM Glock, along with 17 cartridges.
Arrested accused persons have criminal histories
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that both the arrested accused persons have criminal histories as cases pertaining to the NDPS Act and Arms Act were registered against both of them, while accused Shambhu Kabir is also wanted in a murder case.
He said that further investigations are going on to establish backwards and forward linkages in this case.
Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, stated that, based on reliable inputs regarding the involvement of accused Aditya alias Kaka in weapon smuggling, police teams from Police Station Islamabad swiftly laid a trap. As a result, they successfully apprehended him from Band Bhatha at Prem Nagar Road in Kot Khalsa, Amritsar. During the arrest, the police recovered two pistols—namely a .32 bore and a .30 bore—along with 13 live cartridges from his possession, further strengthening their case.
Amritsar Police Arrest Shambu Kabir: Heroin, Chemicals, Pistol Recovered
He stated that follow-up investigations revealed the involvement of another accused, Shambu Kabir. Police teams promptly nominated him and launched an operation to arrest him. They apprehended Shambu Kabir at Old Gas Godown on Guru Ki Wadali Road in Kot Khalsa, Amritsar. During the course of the investigation into the disclosure of accused Shambu, police teams recovered 275 grammes of heroin, 11.1 grammes of chemical (used to mix with heroin), and one.32-bore pistol from his possession.
The CP stated that investigators, acting on information provided by accused Aditya alias Kaka, recovered two parcels containing 5 kg and 3 kg of heroin, 2 kg of chemicals, 6 kg of opium, and a 9mm Glock pistol with one live cartridge. He added that police expect more arrests and recoveries in the coming days.
Police registered three cases
Separately, police registered three cases: FIR No. 240 dated 6/11/23 under Section 25 of the Arms Act, FIR No. 247 under Sections 18 and 21-C of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act, and FIR No. 246 dated 13/11/24 under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act, all at Police Station Islamabad.
