Ludhiana leads with distribution of over 2.29 Lakh Ration Kits, Patiala second with 1.56 Lakh & Sangrur third with 1.36 Lakh
Chandigarh, July 4:The Punjab Government has intensified its ongoing flagship ration kit distribution drive namely MERI RASOI to ensure nutritional security for vulnerable households, with nearly 21.29 lakh families already benefiting under the initiative. The drive aims to cover a total of 40.48 lakh eligible families across Punjab after every quarter i.e. 3 Months.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak are guiding the flagship initiative, under which officials are distributing 80,000 to 85,000 kits daily on a mission mode from designated centers to beneficiaries.
MERI RASOI ; each family would receive one ration kit
The government will provide each family with one ration kit, carefully designed to meet the essential dietary needs of a household. Each kit includes two kilograms of lentils, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder, and one litre of mustard oil for monthly consumption. Authorities will distribute these food kits in addition to the wheat already supplied to eligible beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act, 2013.
Markfed assembles the ration kits, while the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department manages and oversees the distribution network across the state.
21.29 Lakh ration kits distributed
Out of the 21.29 Lakh ration kits distributed so far, Ludhiana accounts for maximum with 229555, Patiala at second spot with 156402, Sangrur third with 136430, Fazilka fourth with 121647 while border district of Tarn Taran stands at fifth position with 121589 Ration Kits. As for the other districts, Amritsar has seen distribution of 118579 Ration Kits, Bathinda 114105, Sri Muktsar Sahib 109045, Jalandhar 105379, Hoshiarpur 86710, Mansa 80591, Gurdaspur 80344, Ferozepur 78404, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar 71238, Fatehgarh Sahib 71097, Moga 69210, Kapurthala 68627, Faridkot 60937, Barnala 59667, Pathankot 58737, Roopnagar 50906, Malerkotla 40988, and in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar 38838 ration kits stands distributed.
The objective is to supplement the staple grain with essential proteins, cooking oil, and spices, thereby improving overall nutritional intake for families covered under the scheme.
The government ensures that no eligible family receives food security.
Authorities are monitoring the distribution to ensure transparency, prevent duplication, and guarantee last-mile delivery. District administrations, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, and local officials are coordinating to ensure the success of the novel measure.
The State Government demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that this scheme provides food security to every eligible family.. By adding these ration kits to the existing NFSA wheat distribution, it effectively addresses both hunger and nutritional needs.
