Private schools can no longer increase fees by more than 5% annually: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
Chandigarh, May 24, 2026: In view of the continuously rising temperatures and prevailing severe heatwave conditions across the region, the Punjab Government has announced a major shift in the operating new working hours of all government offices and educational institutions.
According to an official notification issued today by the Department of Personnel (Personnel Policy-3 Branch), the new timings will come into effect tomorrow, May 25, 2026, and will remain in place until further orders.
Government has advanced New Working Hours
To provide relief to employees and students from the peak afternoon heat, the government has advanced the working hours to the early morning:
- New Timing: 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM
- Effective Date: May 25, 2026 (Monday)
Scope of the Order
The directive is strictly applicable to:
- All Government Offices of the state of Punjab (including those located in Punjab and the capital city of Chandigarh).
- All Educational Institutions across the state.
The order has been addressed to all Special Chief Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaries, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries, Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Divisional Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners of Punjab to ensure strict and immediate compliance.
