The Vigilance Bureau arrested a Tehsildar while accepting a bribe, sending a strong message against corruption. Acting on a complaint, the team laid a trap and caught the official red-handed.
Chandigarh, January 1, 2026: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in line with thezero tolerance policy adopted by the Chief Minister, has shown significant results. The Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government has apprehended Jagtar Singh, Tehsildar posted at district Sangrur.Officials caught him while he accepted a ₹30,000 bribe. Authorities will arrest his co-accused soon.
Officials recovered ₹1,45,000 during the search of the accused Tehsildar’s house.
Today, an official spokesperson of the state VB disclosed the arrest. This action followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Mehlan village, district Sangrur. The complaint was against Jagtar Singh Tehsildar and Malvinder Singh Clerk. They are posted at the Sangrur tehsil office.
He further said that the complainant alleged that he had approached accused for executing the registry of purchased land. Both accused received bribe money of Rs. 30,000/- for executing the registry of the land.
After verifying the complaint, officials confirmed that the allegations were true and registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.Both accused are at the VB Police range, Patiala. Further investigation into this case is underway, he added.
