Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday gave nod to launch a special campaign for constructing 20,000 kilometres of link roads in the state at a cost of Rs 4000 crore.
Chandigarh, April 9 : The Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann made a major citizen-centric decision. On Wednesday, he approved a special campaign. The campaign aims to construct 20,000 kilometers of link roads in the state. This will be done at a cost of Rs 4000 crore.
CM Stresses Urgent Need to Rebuild Vital Link Roads for Rural Growth”
The Chief Minister chaired a meeting here today. He stated that the main motive of the campaign is to facilitate the people. These Link Roads act as a catalyst in commuting. They ensure smooth transportation of goods and services to people. He said that these link roads are the arteries of economic growth in the state. They help people residing in rural areas to commute. Additionally, they give impetus to trade and business. Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized the urgency of constructing these roads. Most of them have remained unattended even after surpassing their life of six years.
CM Mann Orders Need-Based, High-Quality Upgrade of Rural Link Roads”
“The Chief Minister directed officials to construct the roads by categorizing them as top priority, priority, and needy roads.” This way, people can benefit from it. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that an on-the-ground survey is necessary. The survey should focus on the need-based and priority-wise construction of these roads. He directed the PWD and Mandi Board authorities to use every penny wisely. They should ensure judicious spending on the construction of these roads. He added that contractors constructing these roads must maintain them for five years.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has decided to give a major facelift to the link road infrastructure. “The government will achieve this by widening, strengthening, and upgrading rural link roads across the state.” He said that keeping in view the importance of this road network to facilitate the people, the state government has taken this decision. Bhagwant Singh Mann asked the Punjab Mandi Board and PwD to ensure high quality of the work. “He emphasized that the authorities must invest every penny allocated for the project in a justified manner.”
“CM Bats for AI-Based, Need-Driven Rural Road Construction”
“The Chief Minister also urged the use of Artificial Intelligence technology.” It should focus on the need based construction of the rural roads in the state. He said that this step will ensure optimum use of the existing resources of the state along with ensuring top quality work on rural roads. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this technique will revolutionise the construction work on roads by saving a lot of public money. “He also suggested exploring the feasibility of a third-party check.”
On the occasion, Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian was present. Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, Principal Secretary to CM Dr Ravi Bhagat, and others were also there.
