Vigilance Bureau nabs PSPCL JE, Lineman taking Rs 5000 bribe as second instalment
Chandigarh January 17, 2025 – Corruption Crackdown : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Manjit Singh, Junior Engineer (J.E), and Harjeet Singh, Lineman, both posted at Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office Bhogpur in Jalandhar district red handed while accepting second instalment of bribe of Rs. 5000.
An official spokesperson of the state VB disclosed this here today. They said the above mentioned accused have been arrested. This action was based on a complaint lodged by Sumeet Wadhwa, a resident of Sudarshan Park, Maksudan in Jalandhar.
Accused demanding a bribe of Rs 10000
The complainant approached the VB with allegations. He alleged that both the accused have been demanding a bribe of Rs 10000 for installing a new electricity meter. They also demanded it for replacing the old meter at his residence. The complaint informed that the said Lineman had already taken Rs 5000 through UPI payment. He is demanding the remaining bribe money of Rs 5000.
Corruption Crackdown : VB Team Arrests Lineman and J.E. in Bribery Case
The spokesperson stated that the VB team, after conducting a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, subsequently set a trap and arrested the accused Lineman and J.E. while they were accepting the second installment of bribe money from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. Furthermore, the authorities have registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against both accused at the VB police station, Jalandhar range. Moreover, they are continuing the investigation into the case.
