ED Gurugram attaches properties worth ₹47 lakh in a corruption case against NHPC's ex-CGM Harjeet Singh Puri and his wife under PMLA provisions
Gurugram: Gurugram Corruption Case : The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Gurugram Zonal Office, has provisionally attached four immovable properties. These properties are worth approximately ₹47 lakh. They are situated in Faridabad (Haryana) and Ludhiana (Punjab). The properties belong to Harjeet Singh Puri. He is the former Chief General Manager (Finance) at National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC). Moreover, the properties additionally belong to his wife, Arvinderjeet Kaur. The attachment occurred under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. This action relates to a disproportionate asset case.
Case Background
The ED started its investigation. It was based on an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi.This followed Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The FIR alleged that Harjeet Singh Puri and his wife amassed disproportionate assets beyond their known sources of income.
Gurugram Corruption Case : Investigation Findings
The ED’s probe revealed significant misconduct by Harjeet Singh Puri. Specifically, during his tenure as Chief General Manager (Finance) at NHPC, he misused his position. He also indulged in corruption and bribery. Furthermore, he committed multiple offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Consequently, as a direct result of these actions, he generated “Proceeds of Crime.” Subsequently, he acquired assets that were grossly disproportionate to his legitimate income.
The investigation estimated the total value of the disproportionate assets to be approximately ₹1.04 crore. Among these, properties worth ₹47 lakh were identified and provisionally attached.
