PUNJAB POLICE ARRESTS TWO MEMBERS OF GANGSTER MODULE; TWO GLOCK PISTOLS RECOVERED
CHANDIGARH/PATHANKOT, December 21: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI ) Pathankot has made significant progress. They are actively working amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state. They busted a gangster module with the arrest of its two members. This action led to the recovery of two sophisticated 9MM Glock pistols. Additionally, they found four magazines. They also recovered 14 cartridges from their possession. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav conveyed this information here on Saturday.
Police Arrest Two in Arms Smuggling Case
The police have identified those arrested. They are Sunil Kumar, also known as Ashu, who lives in Rauwal in Batala. The other is Dilpreet Singh, also known as Dil, who resides in Raimal in Batala. Accused Sunil alias Ashu has a criminal history with case under NDPS act registered against him. He was released on bail from Gurdaspur Jail on February 27, 2024.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed key details. The accused received the consignment of weapons from Ajnala area of Amritsar. They acted on directions from their handlers. They were instructed to deliver the consignment to an unknown party. Further investigations are underway to uncover the source of the weapons. They are also identifying more suspects involved in the network, he added.
AIG Counter Intelligence Pathankot Arrests Two with Arms
Sharing operation details, AIG CI Pathankot Sukhminder Singh Mann said that they received secret information. It revealed that accused Sunil Kumar and Dilpreet Singh are in touch with some unknown gangsters. Recently, they received a consignment of arms and ammunition from them. Following the input, the teams of CI Pathankot laid a trap to arrest both accused persons. They successfully arrested them after recovering arms and ammunition from their possession, he said.
The AIG said that efforts are being made to track the previous consignments retrieved and delivered by the accused persons.
“FIR No. 71/24 Registered Under Arms Act and BNS at SSOC Amritsar”
In this regard, the police registered FIR No. 71 on 21.12.2024. It falls under section 25 of the Arms Act and section 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar registered the case. Authorities will produce the arrested accused in court to obtain police remand.
