Vigilance Bureau arrests Fire Officer red handed taking Rs. 40,000 bribe
Chandigarh October 4, 2024 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, on Friday arrested Tarsem Singh, Fire Officer, Barnala red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000.
Accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000
A spokesperson of the state VB disclosed today that authorities apprehended the accused following a complaint filed by Hardev Singh, a resident of Village Jharron, tehsil Sunam in Sangrur district.
He further added that the complainant had approached the VB and informed that he had purchased plot for construction of a hotel opposite grain market Barnala. The accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 for issuing the no objection certificate (NOC) from the fire department, but the deal was finalized at Rs. 40,000.
VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused Fire Officer
The spokesperson informed that, after a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, a VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused Fire Officer while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB Police Station, Patiala Range, has registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the investigation is ongoing.
