The 8th edition of India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024 commenced today, at Surya Foreign Training Node, Auli, Uttarakhand.The organizers have scheduled the exercise to be conducted from 30th September to 13th October 2024. Since 2016, participants have held the Joint Exercise KAZIND-2024 annually. The last edition of the Joint Exercise took place at Otar, Kazakhstan, from 30th October to 11th November 2023.
A battalion of the KUMAON Regiment represents 120 personnel.
The KUMAON Regiment battalion of the Indian Army, along with personnel from other arms and services and the Indian Air Force, represents the Indian Armed Forces, which comprises 120 personnel. The Kazakhstan contingent will mainly consist of personnel from the Land Forces and Airborne Assault Troopers.
Aim of the Joint Exercise is to enhance joint military capability of both sides to undertake counter terrorism operations in a sub conventional scenario under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The Joint Exercise will focus on operations in the semi-urban and mountainous terrain. Objectives of the Joint Exercise include achieving a high degree of physical fitness, rehearsing and refining drills for operations at the tactical level, and sharing best practices.

During the Joint Exercise, participants will actively rehearse a variety of tactical drills. For instance, they will respond jointly to a terrorist action.
In addition, they will establish a Joint Command Post, followed by setting up an Intelligence and Surveillance Centre. Furthermore, they will secure a helipad or landing site, and conduct combat free falls.
As the exercise progresses, they will also execute Special Heliborne Operations, perform Cordon and Search operations, and employ drones along with counter-drone systems, among other essential activities.
